BASIC SCIENCE IN REGENERATIVE MEDICINE PANEL

Overview of this lecture:

Regenerative medicine allows us to use autologous components in order to stimulate physiological processes allowing functional recovery and regeneration of almost all tissues. Both PRP and Stem cell therapies are often used in different medical fields for various indications – sport medicine, orthopedics, plastic surgery, wound care, aesthetic medicine and have also a great potential for clinical usage in gynecology and endocrinology.

Goals: To present the latest technological advances and importance of quality control before application of autologous components in order to stimulate regeneration of the tissue.

Methods: A quality control is of great importance for clinical application of autologous products. Accurate protocols for PRP and Stem cell substrates are built. Optimal platelets and leukocytes concentration in PRP ensure distribution of growth factors which can provoke better tissue regeneration. Iliac crest is most common used for Bone Marrow harvesting. Each source of bone marrow stem cell shows high variability in cell count and phenotype. Latest data showed that different phenotypes show various potential in regeneration and reparation of targeted tissue. Our current research is aligned with this hypothesis.

Conclusions: Our experience, as well as different clinical studies conducted worldwide, have shown the potential and regenerative abilities of autologous derived products in different medical indications. Understanding of biomechanical mechanisms and immunobiological base of PRP and Stem cell treatment allows us to have more potent substrates in order to achieve the best results.
